Blue board & Veneer Plaster
Anyone have any experience with replacing old plaster walls with “blue board”? If so, can you please share feedback/comparisons(pros/cons etc.). Is it a DIY project? Where can I buy blue board? Thanks for your help.

What is it about plastering that makes it an acquired skill? How is achieving a good result any more difficult than getting a good outcome with standard drywall?
Put the blueboard up 2 coats of master of plaster basecoat 1 coat of finish and have plaster walls as smooth as glass with no sanding.

Blue board (aka veneer board, imperial board, plaster board) is just regular sheetrock with a different exterior paper. The exterior paper is formulated to accept a skim coat (about 1/16″)of plaster like compound.
The finish is harder and smoother that that obtained using regular drywall, tape and compound however it will not duplicate original plaster in heft, sound insulation, etc.
It is not a diy process as plastering is an acquired skill.
That said, the blue board is avaiable from any lumber yard or building center.
