The DEP recently confirmed that my neighbor’s waste line is leaking into my basement. She is ederly, and I am concerned about her being taken advantage of. I would like to help her find some reputable companies to give her estimates. Any recommendations? Thanks.

  1. I do. Had a flooding problem in my basement caused by water backing up through a hidden drain in my basement floor. 4 companies saw it and didn’t give me a straight answer. Sessa came in, told me what the problem probably was, explained process and gave rough estimate and what variables could impact it – a double bendy thing might be under the concrete previous owner installed. They also told me I could lower it by doing some of the excavation myself and showed me how. Bendy thing was there, estimate lowered, work done promptly and extremely professionally.

For small plumbing stuff they might be more expensive than smaller local folks but for something a little more heavy-duty, they were great.

  2. OP: you don’t give details about the situation as far as your neighbor is concerned, but if she has family, it would be a good idea to approach them first. You wouldn’t want to find yourself in a predicament with family possibly accusing you of interfering. If the lady is alone and has no one else, then you’re doing a good deed by helping her. In any event, proceed carefully.

  3. Drew,

This is off topic, what did you do to get the DEP to look at your and/or your neighbor’s wasteline? Were you charged?

As for plumbers, try John Hlad, they are expensive, but they have always been straightshhooters as far as their work is concerned.
