Hi, we need help asap!!
We are renovating a very small odd shaped bathroom. we cannot purchase a standard shower base because of the bathroom size. We need to build one. Does anyone know of a plumbing supply store where we can get lead sheet for shower pan liner before we tile. We need a 4X4 pan lead.
Please help we have looked everywhere.

  1. we had the same problem a small powder room with no shower. We installed a Cesana 1/2 round shower that looked great. It is ont cheap but it beats braking walls down.

  2. Hello Brownstoners,
I am renovating my bathroom on the parlor floor of my brownstone. It is the main/full bathroom. We have an old 4 1/2 foot tub that we want to remove and make a walk-in shower. We will be installing a clawfoot tub on the other side of the bathroom. My question is, is it better to just tile out the floor and wall and do a custom door or use a pre-fab floor. If tiling is the over all concensus ( my choice) does anyone know a site I can go to to see how it’s done so when I interview contractors, I will be well informed?

    Thanks as always,

  3. pay for a lead pan and a plumber to put it in that plastic stuff is not legal in nyc, can you say flame spread rating and doing something out of galvanized or copper is a joke.

  4. I had a similar problem, i wanted a large shower. I went with the dimensions to these guys.

3 days later I had it installed.

I went with galvanized metal could also splurge for cooper if your budget allows.

    take care.

  5. Ripping out and repairing the damage by a badly-done liner is VERY costly and aggravating.
The way the corners are folded, the height of the rise on the walls, the way it is secured in place…..
I’m not saying don’t do it…I’m just saying do some serious research first.
There’s probably more to it than you think.

And to answer your question: Any plumbing supply store, such as AF Supply on Lafayette, will carry either 4-pound sheet lead or a vinyl alternative such as chloralloy.

You’ll need a much bigger piece than just the size of the floor space.

  6. Carrie m you are correct. That is my problem, we are unable to use a standard shower base because of the odd size. I need to get the base and shower installed then we will go with a custom door. I went to the website mentioned above but the sizes listed there wouldn’t work for me. Unless, they do custom size?

  7. btw, not that you asked, but standard shower kits don’t really work in old houses, where walls and floors may be slightly askew. You’d end up with water damage… custom doors are the way to go, though they’re expensive. We used ABC Shower Doors and were impressed.
