My next door neighbors have a huge tree with 5 to 10 foot branches that hang over into my back yard. In the Autumn the leaves fall into my yard and it is a nuisance to clean. Do I have the right to ask the neighbors to trim the tree so that it does’nt hang into my yard?

  1. Yeah, I’m having some of the same problems, the neighbors tree is right on the fence line and is pretty tall, but the thing is is that the tree looks like it is dying, the small leaves are constantly falling into my yard, but most of all my pool. Given at any time of the year, the leaves fall into my pool, what should i do to stop this problem???

  2. You do the trimming on the part that is on your property, you just can’t hurt the tree when doing so. It would also probably be wise to discuss this.

  3. Exactly, Carrie M. The backyards are tiny here, it takes no time to rake leaves. Houses are never no-maintenance. Houses take a lot of labor and time.

  4. I realize some of the comments here are self-parodying, but – damn! – you people are scary. You want to chop down a tree so you don’t have to sweep leaves? How long does that take? 15 min? Maybe the problem isn’t THEIR trees, but YOUR gutters. Some form of gutter guard will help…

  5. Anyone know what to do if the roots of a neighbors tree are causing cellar leaks? Thus far nice neighborly negotiation isn’t getting me anywhere.
