Fire Escape Installation
Does anyone know how it would cost to install a fire escape for a two story building? any recommendations for people who do this work? thanks.

We need a fire escape repaired (a few rungs are coming loose) — so I, too, would like any insights on good contractors who do this work.
Thanks!
I am interested in bidding on a 4th floor apartment (top floor) in a Park Slope brownstone– but there aren’t any fire escapes. There is a way to get to the roof from the hallway, but that doesn’t seem adequate. Is anyone familiar with the law in this area?
that’s bs about frame vs brick. you don’t need a fire escape unless it’s 3 fam.
If the building is a frame you need a fire escape, if it is a brick you dont need a fire escape for a two family
I don’t know if the code changed but it used to be that you only needed a fire escape (or sprinkler system) for 3+ families. If you are converting from 1 to 2 fam and the code is still the same you may not need the fire escape.
I had a brand new fire escape installed in a 3 story fram house in Jersey City in 2006. Walls were open on the inside so the brackets were fitted around studs before I closed up the walls. I am sure NYC code is different in some aspects of what is required but not sure how different.
The job ran around $6,000. Tom Russo and Sons did the job. Nice work but I wasnt on the top of the list as he had some big contracts with Port Authority at the time.
Will this be approved by a DOB inspector if being converted from a one family to a two family?
two story? You could save alot of money just installing a retractable ladder. like this
