How many watts are sufficient for a small kitchen approximately 8×12. I hate the current light fixture and need to find a new one but most of the kitchen light fixtures I’ve seen only have one or two light bulbs. Please do not suggest adding more light fixtures or doing electrical work since I am not in a position to do so right now.

  1. I find that what I really need in a kitchen is lighting where I work. I know that you said no new fixtures but there are stick on battery operated lights (like stick up air fresheners) that can go under cabinets/above counter tops and they’re super inexpensive. You can definately get them at home depot. I just checked Amazon and they have many styles and are about 10 bucks.

  2. Well, if you by lighting standards, you’ll need about 2000 watts (almost kidding).

The best way since you can’t add fixtures is to add a track. A couple of strategically placed 50w halogen spots and a downlight or two will be more than enough.
