Rubber Matting to Cover Hatches

Hi All, I know this has been covered in the Forum recently so apologies — but I can’t find it in the archive. Our cellar hatch covers just aren’t keeping all this rain out so I’m looking for a source for heavy rubber matting to put over them. I need matting that’s at least 54″ wide. Anyone know where I can go? I’ve struck out at the local hardware stores and Lowe’s. Thanks!
Thank goodness I was worried you’d choke the smell of your own flatulence.
Thanks everyone.
Btw, PD, we do open the air vent on the hatches pretty frequently when the weather is fair. Agree that it’s good to keep fresh air circulating down there!
We have this problem too, and we were going to get someone to fix it, not really sure what was to be done about it. Meanwhile this weekend because we had it on hand we tossed a large outdoor mat with rubber backing on it, on the part of the deck that’s over the hatch and so far (knock on wood) so good, the back door under the hatch hasn’t been letting in water. I’ll check on it again and see if there’s anything to report.
Canal Rubber… as in the one on Canal Street in Manhattan.
You might want to consider whether you need to allow some fresh air into your cellar.
Try Sid’s Hardware on Jay St. That’s where I bought rubber matting for both my cellar hatches.
I posted about the rubber matting that we bought–works like a charm, but it is pricey(around $80) We tried 6mm plastic held down with bricks, but it didn’t work well enough, and it looked, uhm, ugly. They don’t do custom cuts, but we had no problem cutting the mat to size with an exacto knife. http://www.rubbercal.com
