Retrofitting a skylight with a fan
I have pretty two new(ish) chickenwire glass + metal skylights in my rowhouse. Someone told me that they can be retrofitted with a fan, which will dramatically decrease the temperature in the house–by 10/15 degrees. Anyone familiar with such a retrofit and, if so, can you recommend a vendor who can do this? Thanks for…

I called Brooklynfan.com on the same subject. The were of absolutely no assistance. The sell fans, the do not install them. And generally, the are a commercial not a residential operation.

For the best discussions on all the skylight malarky, ignore us all and go to these guys.

Other than the squirrels and bats, I would certainly be incline to agreement with the fellow above me if you dont mind the addition of asst wildlife to your bathroom or stairwells. But I still think its worth avoiding as the experience of two I have, one vented with a fan apparatus and the other not is not worth the troubles. Alot of the times wind reaks havick, and the snow too on some occassions. No go, in my humboldt opinions.
Wait for more informed comments than the first poster offered. I have three old skylights on my brownstone, and all have their original circular vents that could easily accomodate an exhaust fan. In fact, the prior owner of our house vented the bathroom fan out one of the vents, and it works great. No problems with wind or water, although a squirrel occasionally stashes something in the vent pipes and a few bats have found their way in as well.
Its only troubles as far as I can see, you inviting leaks and wind and whatnot. Leave well enough said, and you can move onto more important matters in your life.
