I’ve been quoted $350 for an electrical job and want to know if this sounds right. I’m wanting someone to put the wiring in place behind the ceiling of a living/dining room (17′ by 14′). I’m not asking for any fixtures to be put in place, simply the wiring behind the ceiling so that when the time comes, I can add a fixture or two if I’d like. Does $350 sound right for this type of job?

  1. I agree. If you were having multiple ceiling boxes wired, you might pay less for each. But for one small job, I think the price is right. I had two ceiling boxes installed, which included running the wires to the boxes and to light switches. I also had them run wires for another light switch for a sconce. It all cost $700. And I thought the price was on the low side.

  2. Is this all he’s doing? Is he coming out just to do that? If so, I think the price is right. In my experience, to have most anything done by an experienced person is going to cost $200-$300. Small jobs pull them away from larger jobs that they could be doing. That’s why it’s hard to get someone to come to your house to do a small job.
