We used Rich Perri and I’d give him a solid B+. He was very good about teaching us about our mechanical systems and pointing out what would need to be done as far as maintenance, but his report was very basic and thin, under 10 pages. I understand that some of the inspection companies issue massive 70-page reports – I’m sure some of it is standardized forms, but I would have preferred that to what we got. I was glad we took notes during the inspection.
Overall, I thought Richard Perri was ok but he missed one thing. The flipper who sold us our house used PVC waste and vent lines (illegal then for our size house) and Perri did not notice it.
Richard Perri at phinyc@aol.com did a great job inspecting my brownstone in Boerum Hill. Very thorough – really knows (and appreciates) old houses.
Jane Weiss was my attorney for a property purchase in Brooklyn. I thought she was great. Very thorough and took her time to double check everything. Above all, I found her very easy to talk to and she was happy to take the time the explain everything– sometimes at great length!!–which I appreciated since I often find it hard to keep people on the phone long enough to really feel comfortable. I second Donald Fraser. We used Heimer engineering for inspection,very thorough although I think that can depend on which inspector you get but they are very flexible time-wise.
My husband and I are closing on a house in PS, and we highly recommend our attorney, Don Fraser (718.625.7766). He’s very through, fast & experienced. Since we started the process, we NEVER had to chase him for anything. For inspection, you can’t go wrong with AVT Enterprises (718.720.5088). Ask for Joe – he will tell you EVERYTHING you need to know about the house. He’s been recommended several times in this forum.
They are both very honest, hands on, fast & knowledgeable. (And, not expensive either!) We’ll use both of them again with no doubt.
We used Rashidah Siddiqui of Serpico, Serpico & Siddiqui in downtown Brooklyn. Rashidah lives in Brooklyn, so does her law partner, and they’re smart, really cool, thorough and good. Congrats and good luck!
