My cellar suffers from being damp and musty — particularly after it rains. I’ve done some research online and am considering either a heavy duty ($1,000 Santa Fe) — dehumidifier with all the bells and whistles (extra $200 for installation, etc.), or an @ $1200 Humidex system (price includes installation). Both report to be relatively problem free, and do not require buckets being emptied. Anyone have experience with either? Or have a better idea? Thank you.
we bought a $300 dehumidifier from home depot and a $75 electic pump, then ran a hose between the dehumidifier and the sink in our basement. it was pretty simple to set up (our long time plumber recommended buying the pump separately b/c he said that is what always breaks on the low end models, and then you have to replace the whole thing rather then just the pump)
It’s been working great, and no buckets to empty. Only drawback is that it seems to be running all the time, even though it has a digital humidistat, which is making our electric bills a bit high. however, the cellar is dry.
we’d like to install a larger one like you are thinking of doing, but are waiting until we renovate the cellar in a few years.
