What have people’s experiences been with Foxtons realtors? My husband and I just had an unsettling exchange with one and have a sinking suspicion that he was lying about an all-cash offer to get us to bid higher. Has anyone else encountered some ethical issues with Foxtons, or is this something across the board? We never trusted realtors in the first place, but this guy was exceptionally slimy.

  1. i am a seller who made the mistake of using Foxtons. they entice sellers to use the real estate agents with paying a low percentage, then tell you you’re home isn’t worth what you want fo it and have you lower the price until it’s not worth it for you to sell. because of this so many people lower the price substantially they are able to move homes like cattle and make it appear that they are doing a good job. also, they don’t really do the sales, it’s usually another realator. they are a lazy bunch of do no gooders.

  3. I had a bad experience with them as well. They are not paid in commission, so they have little incentive to go above and beyond.

Incidentally, I’ve seen many brokers use the “I have another buyer with an all cash offer” line. My favorite thing to do in that situation is to walk away and watch the house remain unsold for months…of course, that only works if you really don’t want the house!

  4. We used them as a buyer broker — they knowingly withheld important information from us like the house was involved in a major fire, the seller died intestate and the family was quabling over ownership. After spending alot of time and mony (title search, inspection, etc) we spoke to a neighbour who gave us the low down. It turns out foxtons khew all this all along — we walked away. Stay away from them — pure scum.

  5. I dont know from a buyers point of view but my experience with them as a seller was aweful.

I got a note from one of their agents saying they had someone who wanted to buy my house. So I called them and told them that I’d be open to hearing the offer as I was about to put my house up for sale – but I was not interested in an exclusive listing with Foxtons.

Not only did this imaginary buyer not exist but the agent was completely obnoxious to me. He proceeded to tell an outright lie that his agency had lots of listings in my neighborhood (they had ONE!), as well as a number of other half truthes about the industry. He told me that my house would never sell if I didn’t give it to his agency and he actually wished me BAD LUCK on the call.

Ive never dealt with any company who deals so blantantly in deceit. As a buyer, I’d be EXTREMELY cautious.
