are tankless hot water heaters legal in NYC?
Does anyone know if it is legal to install a tankless hot water heater in NYC? I know they sell them in the Home Depots but I was curious since no one seems to use them yet.

Wood is toxic when it burns, as is just about everything in a house other than the bricks, steel and drywall. PVC is very much legal in NYC in buildings under 6 stories.

There is nothing wrong with tankless water heaters. The only thing I would suggest is just using a hot water coil in the boiler (if you have one) – same effect without the added overhead of a second installation (operating costs are about the same).
I would argue just the opposite is true..Why would a HD in NYC sell something that is illegal in New York..The potential for being sued alone would prevent this; not to mention they would never sell any, so why carry something you cannot sell..
I dont think there are many people driving in from VA, PA, and NJ to buy PVC to bring back home..(I have no idea what the legality of PVC is in those aforementioned states which I used only in the prinicipal of argument)..
If you go to the Dept. of buildings website,,you wil find many current references to the use of PVC in various applications..

Because home depot sells it does not make it legal they sell pvc which is elegal in nyc.
Im pretty you answered your own question..if Home Depot sell them in New York..then its fair to say there quite legal…but Perhaps still a bit new and most do not even know they exist…
