How to mow very long grass (18 inches)?

  1. You can also get a lawnmower blade that also acts as a mulcher. I got one (around $20 I think?) and have been real happy with. I recently cut up to 36+” grass and in some instances if it was really thick, I just had to go over these stalks a few times. Other than that, I carefully control the amount of grass I go over. Most of the time it was about a third – any more had the potential of clogging the blade. Which means lots more time required!! The blade was available in a local hardware store (not sure if Home Depot had it…). Basically you have to remove the blade underneath the mower. Just lean the mower onto its side and go for it. You’ll probably be happy to squirt some WD-40 or equivalent on to loosen the bold and blade. Get a good wrench and lay on some elbow grease. Just some add’l info: Visually, the mulching blade is not a single blade (like a razor). If you look at the blade (with the center hole for the bolt, it has a blade/straight edge coming out of the center, but near the edges, some of the metal is bent up at 90 degrees. These are the mulching bits. The other straight edge serves as the traditional cutting blade. Jerry
