LIFE BEYOND TILE

I have been thinking of concrete floors, and colored glass backsplashes…but maybe these are just as expensive and not the best option. Any creative ideas on a budget that others have used? One of the baths is for our kids, one for master, and one for guest.
I suggest Bergen tile. I happen to always catch great deals on closeouts there. Also Weinsteins on Mcdonalds Ave has closeouts also. Occasionally you can get a good deal at Home Depot. But I have done several homes with tile from Bergen on Flatbush tween Dean and Bergen. The guys there will work with you in pricing also if you need little or alot of tiles. Whatever you do, dont go to Pintchik, very expensive. And make sure you buy extra for future plumbing problems .
The cheapest way to go is to not use any wall coverings at all, but instead purchase water resistant paint (usually high gloss).
For the floor, painted cement is the way to go. The previous posters are wrong. Don’t hire an “artisan” to do the work. Any contractor can do it and you don’t have to worry about the finish . . . you can paint it any color you want!
For the bathtub/shower, Home Depot is the best and cheapest place to get plastic/fiberglass units that are very inexpensive and simple to maintain.
Good luck and please let us know how cheaply you pull it off!
I found linoleum to be really expensive and long lead time. Maybe I was looking at some higher end version, but it was a 6 week lead time and not cheap.
linoleum (like those sheets of vinyl you see from in home depot) is by far the cheapest floor covering one can put in a bathroom.
Try beadboard wainscoting on the walls – much cheaper than tile. You’ll still want some kind of tile floor, however.
I don’t get your question. tile is the cheapest. That’s why it’s used in public bathrooms, subways, theater bathrooms, etc….
You want CHEAPER than tile? uh . . . . outhouse?
You’re kidding right. Concrete would be multiple times the cost of tile.
Maybe you should only renovate one at a time. Is there a certain reason you need to do them all at once? You’ll regret it if you cheapen it up and then want to renovate it again in 5 years. It’s smarter to just do one each year if you can’t afford to do it nicely. Fortunately you have three bathrooms, so its easy for you to do them one at a time.
Glass tile is more expensive than ceramic tile. It’s not the cost of the materials that are expensive; it’s the labor. Do a search for bathroom reno on here and you can see one for $2,000 and another for $4,000.
