I agree with the other responses: it sounds too low. Maybe they are trying to get rid of old R-22 units, which as others have said, are not to be used any more. We recently had two outside condensors replaced, both 3.5 ton, both new Puron Carrier to replace the old R-22’s, and that alone came to $10,000. Have both All H.V.A.C. and Vigilante give you an estimate – as well as Keyspan.
Sounds cheap to me. 3 units for $32k? should be about $40 or $50k. You shouldn’t use R-22. It’s bad for the environment.
The price is not far out of line at less than $4000/ton, however a word of caution, R-22 refrigerant is being phased out due to environmental concerns. In the near future it will become prohibitively expensive to recharge R-22 units. You should insist on units using the newer R-410A refrigerant.
