I am purchasing a pool heater. My pool is at the end of my yard about 75 feet from my gas meter (meter is inside my house)
I am going to hire a plumber to run the gas line but always like to have knowledge of task before hand. The gas line will run under ground.
How deep does the pipe have to be buried under ground 18â€, 2′..?
For 75 feet how thick should the pipe be ¾, 1â€..?
Do I need a shut off value at the start of the connection?
Should I shut off gas at the end of season?
My bar-b-que grill is 10′ before pool. Could I tap on another connection on to pipe to feed bar-b-que grill?
I have a 10X16 pool. The pool heater will be a 100,000 btu.
What is a comfortable temperature?
If anyone has a pool heater (my pool will only be used on weekends), what are the logistics with pool heater usage and what is the typical impact on the gas bill?
Thanks.
I am getting a new pool and want to find out about getting a heater on the pool. We live in Fairview Tx and I think it would be nice to heat the pool at the start of the season and at the end. Can I get some feedback on the cost to heat a pool. Which is better gas or electric?
I am anon at June 19, 2007 12:09 PM.
How can I find out if gas meter can handle the 100,000 btu load. I use gas only for stove and heating water. I would not be sharing any of those lines I would set up a new run.
I will call Gas Company.
From your experience, do they have to send someone out or is this info on file?
Does any one have answers to my other questions?
Thanks.
“old school types would go this route first”
You’re right.
New school types, such as myself, will do the math first and find out if we’re wasting our time before doing an expensive expirement.
Volume of gas and length of run are specific values.
Measure twice. Do it once.
It’s what’s for dinner.
in addition to capacity on current line and if it can handle the added volume needed for a pool heater, I would suggest a brass pipe to fight against corrosion (more money but should last a life time). I suggest a shutoff at beginning (in house) and especially at the end of the run. this is how I setup my heater. Will the heater be nearby the BBQ or will it locate on the far end of the pool? BBQ and heater can share the line, but all goes back to volume. you can tap into the BBQ and see what happens (not legit but old school types would go this route first).
Your first question should’ve been, “Do I have enough room on my current gas meter to handle an additional 100,000 btu load?”
Check that out first.
