The third floor of our house has been cut through to give the 2nd floor a lovely atrium and lots of light. However the 3rd floor in particular gets very hot in the summer. Has any one had experience putting an exhaust fan in the roof? We have a small skylight we could use.

  1. I believe the point of drawing in the outside air is that you bring it in from a lower floor where it may be 10 degrees or so cooler, and thereby flush out and replace the hot top-floor air with cooler air.

  6. Hi,

I’ve been looking into roof or whole house fans too. What type of contractor does this? Electrician or Roofer or combo?

anyone have recommendations for companies that do this

    thanks also.

  7. I cut a hole in my roof to vent the crawl space between the ceiling and the roof with a solar powered vent fan. This area traps alot of heat in the summer and may be why it gets so hot upstairs. If you put a whole house fan in, that might help. They pull in the air from outside though and you might not want all the outside air coming in.
