My partner and I have the opportunity to acquire a Brownstone in Stuy-Heights, and we would like a recommendation for a contractor who specializes in Brownstones to review the property ASAP. The owner had someone look at the space that quoted $200k for renovation but having seen the house (it’s a one family that could potentially become a 3) we think that it would be much more. Either way we need our own independent reviewer.
Please help!
Ditto NYKB in the lousy work dept. And, as a ‘bonus’, they break the law by not placing your deposit in escrow. Not to mention they commit tax fraud by charging sales tax on capital improvements. They’ve stolen LOTS of my money and made my life a living hell. Wouldn’t wish them on my worst enemy (other than them–they deserve some renos done in the style they give their customers).
DON’T USE SUBAH CONSTRUCTION LOUSY WORK AND RIP
OFF..
POOR QUALITY WORK.. AND THIEVES….
I’m currently using Pietro from AllRenovation as my GC for a full gut reno of my brownstone in Bklyn. The estimate from them was extremely competitive with other contractors I found from this site. I also made sure I spoke and visited with several of their current and past clients which further helped and influenced my decision to hire them. In my experience you get what you pay for, they definitely are a HIGH-END firm and run a tight crew. Pietro is an excellent GC and is always in touch with me which is an important part of why things are running smoothly.
I was the poster about AllRenovation and want to stress that I am not trashing the company. Pietro seemed like a very solid and reasonable guy. He showed up on time for the estimate, took a lot of time and sent a proper break down. Until I got my other bids I was going to go with him because I sensed he could be trusted and would run a tight crew and since I travel all the time that was a massive priority. When my other bids came in lower, I was suprised so I started showing his bid to the other people – but only after they came in with theirs. They were the ones to point out where the price was going up and it seemed to be with the subs he was using. The electric and plumbing were insane.
Anyway. To me, the value of this site is honesty and I thought I would share, in the most fair way possible.
Anon,
Could you provide your email here or send me your contact info so I could review your experience with AllRenovation and any other GC’s you requested estimates from?
Thanks,

AllRenovation will def. be a higher end estimate. When I got my bids they came in the highest, even though I never interviewed a “budget” GC. I’m sure they do good work but not sure I would be willing to pay 20% beyond other high end contractors for it.
As you always read on the site, get three or more people to give you a bid. That will give you the best idea.

AllRenovation did an estimate for FREE and I eventually hired them after reviewing their brownstone expertise – but I owned my brownstone. If you are looking to get an estimate for due diligence of purchasing a brownstone I believe they charge a fee. Call Pietro at 718-351-4099, he was my GC. The company website is
