I called Christopher John Electrical based on good feedback on this site and felt supporting the site’s advertisers was a good idea. That was a really bad idea. They broke not one but two appointments. I offered to stay late (up to 10PM) waiting for them, but they refused. I can’t take off from work again for them. They offered a $50 credit to compensate me for the trouble and asked if I could be their first appointment, between 9am and 11am. Sorry…but I am at work at 7am. Who in their right mind would let them pull the same thing 3 times! First time, shame on you, second time, shame on me. Third time? Well, thats just being stupid. Avoid!

  1. I had scheduled work to be done by christopher john about a month ago.

They were on-time. Others apparently didn’t have this experience at all. I really needed new lighting in my kitchen and hallway and didn’t want to bother with typical hassles, who does!

I found good feedback on here so that helped me choose them. I really can’t complain at all. Prices weren’t bad for what I got out of it. I really wanted it done and, they did a great job.

I’ve had terrible experiences with other contracters coming late or even not at all. This was a real treat!

  2. 8:43, that wasn’t true in my experience! After interviewing approx 5 contractors for each trade (totalling 12 trades), I was stood up VERY RARELY.

I did in fact have a walk-through with Christopher John. They got back to me with an estimate only after I called and emailed them several times. Their estimate was twice as much as what I had gotten from other contractors. I also got the impression that they were very “busy” (ie a small operation spread too thin).

I ended up going with Detore Electric (Mike Fiorentino at 212 679 1100 — they work in BK and Manhattan), because the contractor was not only professional, asked a ton of important questions during the walkthrough and gave me a reasonable estimate, but he showed up on an emergency phone call from me BEFORE WE SIGNED THE CONTRACT (power failure during demo) and didn’t charge me — just said, Hey if you sign with me it’s part of the job, if you don’t, i’ll bill you.

Detore were a dream to work with. Con Ed came by recently to switch over our power and actually complemented me on their work.
