Anyone have any experience with windowless air conditioner units? I am moving to a new apartment, and thought I might investigate this as an option. Thanks in advance!

  1. i have one because i used to live in a place whose window bars were set too close to the window to provide clearance. the thing works, but the water drainage issue makes it a huge pain. maybe technology has improved the design, but on mine the water would collect in a small hopper at the bottom. while it had a hose attachment, it was only driven by sheer gravity so the hose had to go straight down from the unit or it would spill all over the place. so the only way to make this work would have been to put the unit on a table high enough to get the hose out the window. whew!

  2. Work ok, they need way to exhaust air (hole about 6″). Not as efficient as window units because they exhaust hot air, so will draw in warm air into room. More expensive that comparable window unit. Also only highend units will drain out water, for others you’ll have to do it.

All in all, should be a last resort or as a backup.
