Pimp My Garden Bench?
My partner is giving me a metal garden bench for my birthday, yeh! But it’s black and I’ve been dreaming of something blue. Is it crazy to approach an auto body to spray paint this baby? If so, any recommendations for where to go and any idea what it would cost? Or should we go…

Thanks for DIY encouragement. We’ll take a bash at it!
Yeah, painting is easy. Use Rustoleum spray.
Fun to hear people painting things blue. I love the idea of bright blue in a garden against the green. Navy radiators sounds awesome. I don’t have much else to say except to send my compliments on color choices and good luck!
You have my vote for best brownstoner forum title ever.
And I say, just paint the damn thing. I love the Dutch oil paints you can get at Janovic, the colors are gorgeous. I painted all my radiators in their navy blue.
I’m completely useless at the DIY thing but even I’d be able to spray paint a bench 😉
Big old sheet, follow directions. 10 bucks of paint from Lowes and you’ll be away! Worst case, you get a few drips from holding the can too close. Let it dry, sand the drip and retouch. Go on, I dare ya . . .
There’s a guy on 7th Street, near 5th Ave, Di Gamba, I think, who mostly does wood stripping. He “pimped” my antique steam radiators a few years ago with a nice spray paint job (one white, two an antique shellac color) that held up through years of use without chipping.
