Painting entrance way under stoop

The small entrance between our security gate and our front door under our stoop is a dull lifeless and more importantly damp and paint-peeling place. We’ve since had the steps sealed to combat moisture as best as possible but I wanted to paint the brick walls in this vestibule. Any recommendations on a paint that will tolerate some seepage without peeling. Regular exterior brick paint, thoro-seal or similar?
Thanks Anon, I am the original poster. We had the steps sealed in the sense that the cracks were filled with cement as part of the facade restoration.
The damp comes partly from the fact that the original open grill gate that would allow some “breathing” of moisture was replaced at some point with a plexiglass/steel security gate that creates a trapped humid greenhouse effect in the space.
If it’s damp as you describe it, do not paint it as you will simply wind up with damp peeling paint. If you have any interest in painting that area, you have to first cure the water problem. Not sure what you mean by ‘having the steps sealed’, but that sounds like a coating – possibly paint? Preventing moisture from getting through the stoop involves redoing and possibly re-pitching the steps themselves. Work from the outside in and the top down….
