I’m in the middle of a renovation on my house, and part of the work involved removing a mud hut. It was discovered that the area under the mud hut needs some back-filling, and also the downspout which was running over the roof of the mud hut now needs to be run into the basement and reconnected to the sewer line. The recent storm filled our basement with about 9″ of water – and it occured to us that a sump pump would be a smart purchase. I asked the contractor who’s doing our renovations for a price – and he told me it was 3-4 days work, including concrete work and backfill – and quoted $3500, saying he wouldn’t be making a profit on the job.
What would a reasonable price be? And can the forum recommend a few contractors to contact for competing bids?
Thanks!
OP here. I’m surprised that you think $3500 is a decent price.
Just the other day, MasterPlumber was saying that a sump pump was a DIY project, I believe – and not all that complicated.
Anyone else care to comment?
I’m willing to do this – but man, $3500 is a lot of $$$ for me.
How important is a sump pump?
Also – any suggestions for contractors to get in touch with for competing bids?
Thanks!
$3,500 is a good price. I’ve been seeing $3,000 on up quoted for sump pump installationi on recent discussions following the recent deluge.
