My husband and I are planning to embark on a complete restoration of the parlor-floor plaster cornice moldings of our Fort Greene Italianate brownstone. I’d like to get some quotes and would appreciate any references for master plaster worker/s who could do this type of job.

The original cornice included ornate dentals surrounded on the wall and ceiling by stacks of detailed borders. Unfortunately, all the dentals are now gone, though many of the borders remain. (The moldings in the hallway are still intact, so we can see what they looked like.) The ceilings on this floor are 12 1/2 feet high. I understand some companies make moldings in polyurethane as well as plaster. Has anyone used that type? I’ve seen the Balmer Studios plaster catalogue.

  1. we had some tricky plaster work done by Mark Romero of Wofsey Romero. Highly reccomend. Work is top notch. His partner is Daniel Wofsey. Phone 201 264 6003.

  2. I went on the house tour last year in Fort Greene. One of the homes had received exquisite, museum quality plaster renovation. I had never seen any work of that caliber before. The company that did it is Absolute Plastering. Their number is 718/495-5262. I called them about some work in my home. They never called back, and I moved on. The work they did, however, was totally memorable and I suspect very expensive.
