Can anyone help me to find the rules and regulations for a 3-family building. I am buying one this month and want to be informed. I went to NYC.Gov but got lost. Help.

  1. also make sure you get an updated multiple dwelling registration from the HPD listing the house as three family. This should be done at closing or soon after and will need to be renewed annually.

  2. OP again: The property has a sprinkler system and beautiful 100 yo doors. Didn’t notice a peep hole and would hate to have to drill into the wood. Thoughts?

  3. Unless you’re doing major renovations that require DOB permits, you don’t have to worry about codes. If it’s a legal three family, you should have the following in place: Fire escape, two means of egress, fire rated doors with peephole, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, individual doorbells and provide janitorial and mail services, etc.

    Now if you’re going to do extensive renovations, that’s another can of worms. Good luck!!
