ikea kitchen installation
Just wondering how the process works. Do they recommend and/or set up a contractor to install the kitchen or do we have to find them on our own? I have heard that Ikea kitchens are only as good as their installers, so I want to make sure we have someone good! Thanks!

I recently had an Ikea kitchen installed by Saar K 917-803-1465 after I found his name on this forum. Working with him was wonderful. He did a great job (my kitchen looks fantastic) and he is an honest, flexible, trustworthy, warm person who was a pleasure to work with. He has a lot of experience installing Ikea kitchens, is very knowledgable and competent, and helped with design in addition to installation. He was open to doing anything that would be helpful – including chopping ice and shoveling snow in front of my house when I happened to be out of town while he was working on the kitchen. I would work with him again with enthusiasm (not a typical experience for me as a brownstone owner).
What about doing the install yourself? I’d like to give that a try, but I’m not the most experienced DIY guy. I’ve also heard that the ikea cabinets installation manual leaves a little to be desired? Anybody experience this?

One word of advice, don’t buy anything at the kitchen department that isn’t currently in stock. When i did my rental kitchen a few items were not in stock and even though i was told they were standard items and would be arriving very shortly to the store it took me several months (and me calling just about every ikea on the east coast b/c they don’t have any sort of centralized inventory system) to get all the parts to what i ordered. The funny part was this was their most basic line of kitchen products. Also make sure you clear a FULL day to order your kitchen b/c we went on a week day and we ended up waiting at least 4 hours (and the store was empty) for them to bring up our order from their warehouse. Good Luck (the kitchen has held up though despite the problems but personally i am not a masochist and would never go to ikea again).
We used Traemand to assemble our cabinets–too much else going on for us to deal with it and our contractor didn’t want to do it. They were so-so, can’t rave about them. Also, search Traemand on apartmenttherapy.com–I seem to remember some horror stories about them over there. Maybe there is someone better?
We are having Traemand install our Ikea kitchen as we speak (www.traemand.com) and they are doing a great job & being very considerate. Definitely go to ikeafans.com. I actually had someone on that forum design my kitchen for me from the Ikea planner. We went to Ikea Elizabeth (only 3% tax) rented a uhaul & brought the stuff back with us (thereby saving time & money). Our entire kitchen- no countertops- cost about $3300. And for Traemand to demolish & haul away our old kitchen and install all of our new stuff is about $2700. Good luck & if you have aPC download the Ikea planner and have fun playing with your design yourself.
i’ve had 2 ikea kitchens (1 for the tenants) installed in my house.
both by a guy named alberto 646 472 4842. he did an amazing job both times and was fast.
I used a kitchen installer that was refer to me by a co worker and was very happy.
I bought the kitchen online after a designer made a layout for me (that was waste of money…) and when he came to install I’ve had staff missing….to make the story short try to “involve†your installer in the process of planning/buying the kitchen so you’ll have everything in hand for the work to be completed…{this guy will help you he is very knowledgeable in Ikea kitchens and has a lot of referrals…..his # 917-803-1465 Saar

curious…how much did you spend Anonymous on your Ikea kitchen? how much do they run normally, all in?
thanks in advance
I just installed an Ikea kitchen, using their certified installers: Traemand. Traemand, in addition to assembly and installation. will help you design your kitchen (for a fee of $175, which will be credited back to installation fees if you retain them for that job). They did a pretty good job on my kitchen. . . but, like any contractor or sub, you have to watch very closely for shortcuts and errors. 10 days after the fact, I discovered a defective back panel on one of my base cabs. However, after I called and complained, they agreed to come back to replace and reinstall it on their dime. No hassle. If I had to do it all over again, I would still choose Ikea and Traemand as i am not a DIYer..
BTW, check out visit ikeasfans.com. This is a very active website of people who have gone the ikea route and are quite happy about it. Great source of info and tips there. Good luck!
