We would like to open up some of our fireplaces for gas. We’ve already run a gas line for one, and would like some recommendations for gas systems that don’t look fake. Anyone do this?

  1. OP here. I don’t see a larger unit which would fill a brownstone fireplace. I like the looks of the adorn, but our fireplace is bigger.

  2. and yes, it does have an MEA number. If you call the manufacturer, they’ll give it to you.

and remember, anything you buy online, including a $1500 gas fireplace insert, that comes from out of state, you don’t have to pay sale tax on, so you might as well shop around.

  3. That’s BS. I’ve bought and installed the Valor Adorn. It definitely does require the fireplace to be lined. Look up the PDF instructions. I used flexible piping which was easy to install. You can use similar flexible metal piping with lots of gas insert fireplaces.

The Valor Adorn is one of the smaller units on the market and can fit into smaller openings than most other gas inserts.

I think what the previous poster might have been referring to was ventless gas fireplaces. I’d stay away from those unless you have no way no vent the fumes.

  4. Google ‘Valor Adorn’. It’s a gas fireplace that does not require the chimney to be lined. Also has a coal look, which is more authentic for brownstones.
