We’re trying to get our front entrance doors on our brownstone (classic double entrace doors with glass in middle and transom on top) restored and the interior parlor floor pocket shutters replaced on a total of 5 windows.

We have tried to get someone from both Southslope Woodworks and from Heights Woodworking to come and give us an estimate, but to no avail. Southslope wont call us back and Heights Woodworking STOOD US UP for an appointment. When we called to find out what happened, Annie at Heights (a real gem of a person) couldn’t offer us another appointment for 2 weeks. You’d think for big jobs people would want to do business with you, but it doesnt seem like it.

Please tell me there are more than two businesses out there that are doing this type of work?

  1. ANNIE IS A SWEETHEART AND HEIGHTS DOES AMAZING WORK! THEY ARE AMONG THE MOST SKILLED WORDWORKERS IN THE ENTIRE CITY.

Does anyone understand that there are many slopers with an ‘I’m the center of the universe’ mentality? There is a growing perception of them as whiny, nosy, self righteous and demanding. Hmmm- wonder why?

  2. Re: Heights Woodworking Stand up Appt.

I always call Customers back if there is a cancellation / change in time /

We do Afternoon / Evening and Saturday appts
    We have 4 – 5 appts a day.

So if I missed you – I apologize we do not work like that.

  3. It is true, that your job is not a big job but there are people out there who can do it. Talk to Eddie. I was going to get my doors restored too and found out that I could get new ones made for way less than you would think but stripping doors IS a pain if that is what you are thinking of. If you want a new door, call the mill guys. If you want them stripped, ask Eddie.

  4. What you have is not a “big” job. A $75,000 kitchen is a “big” job. What you have there is a “pain in the ass” job in the minds of contractors, something they don’t want to deal with. Most cabinet makers/ woodworkers won’t want to deal with your job because its much easier to build something from scratch than to restore/ retrofit newly built shutters. There are too many things that can go wrong.

  5. Don’t waste your time with Tamer — talk about being stood up. I asked him to fix my pocket doors and had to chase him for days. When he did show up whatever he did to them did not fix the problem. I tried again to get him to come back and he stoodme up. I gave up trying and am now looking for someone else.

  6. We absolutely LOVE William- so reliable and does a perfectionist job! He did tons of work for us in helping us restore woodwork in our BedStuy brownstone- all kinds- windows, doors, stairs… 917-676-8798. Tell him Jessy sent you.
