The previous owner removed all of the spindles and handrails and replaced it with iron railing (not very attractive iron railing). I need to purchase 120 spindles and replace the hand rail for all three floors of our brownstone. ANY suggestions on where I can go to buy or make what I need? I first thought salvage but I am not sure if I can score that many. Thanks for the feedback.

  1. Oh, one other thing. Bill reproduced original spindles for 25 dollars which is very inexpensive (others charge from 40-70). Good luck.

  2. Donatella, you always get there before me. 😉
I’ll have to second Bill. Don’t bother with Dykes or Tamar if you have to get them made. Unless, of course, you feel like paying more for the same quality work.

  3. I think you are better off with salvage. The new stuff is very expensive. Perhaps you can get full sets for each floor if you can’t get matching for the whole place.

  4. Call Bill, who has his own mill shop in BedSty. He did excellent reasonably priced work for me — bannisters, spindles, among other things. Great. I got his name from Brownstoner. 718-218-9051.
