paint stripping
Anyone ever work with East End wood strippers? I saw their ad posted on the side of Brownstoner and was wondering if anyone actually used them? If so would you recommend them?

I work for a design build firm in Brooklyn. I have worked with East End Wood strippers on a couple of occasions. The quality of the work is great. They’re not cheap, but this is a great example of you get what you pay for. I have tried to use cheaper solutions with no success. Dean is very knowledgeable about his business.
I read the above criticism about removing and reinstalling pocket doors. I have really found that to be a common thread in craftsman in NYC renovations. They do what they do well and nothing more. Most people who are good at one thing won’t agree to do anything else because they aren’t the best for the job. It may make it more difficult to get a job done, but better then getting a job done poorly. I say if you can afford East End, use them.
The only bad thing about East End is timing. Get appointments or confirmed times. They are busy and sometimes hard to pin down.
This is Dean, from East End Woodstrippers. Obviously, anyone is free to decide how they feel about a company, and hearing others’ comments usually is helpful. I’ve been doing this work for 25 years, and we always strive to be as considerate and helpful as possible. We pride ourselves on treating your home with respect, and treating clients fairly. What we do is inherently messy, but we are able to keep the distruptions in your home to an absolute minimum.
In the 80’s and 90’s I had my shop on Carroll St. We then moved out to Long Island, but now, after ten years, we have returned to the neighborhood with our new shop on Third Ave.
If you click on our ad, you’ll find out alot about our company and how we do things.
Please remember there are always two sides to a story. Sometimes, prospective clients aren’t sure what they want and go back and forth changing their minds about things. Sometimes there’s an honest misunderstanding. Almost always, things run very smoothly – I been doing this for too long to try and make it a hassle – I want things to go well for us and our clients. And our track record shows that. Any questions, or any information you’d like, just give a call.
I *wanted* to use them. They seemed helpful at first, but then I couldn’t get a straight answer out of them as to how work would proceed or how much it would cost. At first I asked about dipping some pocket doors and they said it was curbside pickup only (meaning they wouldn’t deinstall or reinstall) — unless we were having other work done by them. When I said we’re interested in other work as well, they said in that case they wouldn’t remove the doors to strip them but would do them in place because sometimes they can never get the doors put back in quite right. Seems odd that they wouldn’t have volunteered that info from the beginning. But then it was hard to say if it was true or just what was easier for them. It was rather disappointing.
was considering them too….any comments would be apprciated.
