I used them this spring and was very happy with the experience. It was much preferable to the two large local companies I’ve used in the city in the past. And they’re flat rate, which means you pay the quoted amount, that’s it. None of this charging for tape, etc.
I think you mean Movers Not Shakers. We used them to pack and move a 2br apartment. Overall I was happy and would use them again. They did indeed move fast, and since none of them spoke much English the signs that I had put on several things saying “Do Not Pack” were ignored, and after giving verbal instructions to the foreman not to pack a bathroom I found another guy packing it.
Other than that though I thought that they were fine. They were polite, quick, nothing got broken, and they were nice to my kids.
My husband said that he wouldn’t use them again because of the way the boxes were labeled (no details at all, just whatever room they had come from), but I think that with most companies you will get a foreign crew who will not list the contents of the boxes.
From what I understand, the owner – a Brooklyn local – pays his guys a decent wage and treats them well, and that’s the kind of company I’d like my money to go to.
yes i used them. Despite your intro, as with most intermediate level moving companies, you get a crew of eastern europeans with a budget truck, or maybe their branded truck. They are fast (too fast, I think) and strong but I’d say that if you want all your crockery and books and odds and ends carefully wrapped, then you better make very sure that you have made this clear at outset, and that anything they are not to move is safely taken out of the way, because when they arrive it is go-go-go until the end. I paid just over a K (plus the obligatory 20% tip) for about 1000 cubic feet of furniture and stuff, where I had done nearly all the boxing, they just had to do some large item dissassembly. I’ve paid 30% less before for a longer move, with just 3 guys, and a high profile city firm quoted twice as much as movers/shakers
Yes, I do. I found out about them by reading about them here…use the search tool…
I used them to move furniture a couple of times. They are fast and both times, the men that came were very strong. I would make sure that if you have any old pieces/antiques, you verbally set that up during the schduling process and also observe when they are wrapping up and then moving in. They moved a very old all wood/glass cabinet and it was done without a scratch. I recommend them.
