I planned on having hardwired under cabinet lighting in my new kitchen. Now that the cabinets are in and at varying heights, it looks like there will be a lot of exposed wires and drilling from cabinet to cabinet. I’m thinking of burying the wire and just using simple battery operated lights that fit individually under each cabinet ( thus no unsightly wires). Does anyone have any experience/ advice on this??

  1. “Yeah, sure if you want to waste resources for your pleasure.”

yes, yes i do. and i’m sure you do too. after all, it takes “resources” to watch TV, take baths, make ice cubes, make beer, use the internet, etc.

    WTF are you talking about?

  2. Yeah, sure if you want to waste resources for your pleasure. BATTERY operated kitchen lights? That’s a new low. Undercabinet lights are the height of unneeded luxsury.

Under cabinet lights are one of the few ways to light your work area in a way that will not cast a shadow on what you are working on.

The way my kitchen is layed out, the overhead light is blocked by your body when you stand at the counter working.

  3. I love my undercab lights. Its great to have direct light when you are chopping and cooking. And it looks great too.

Id definitely suggest hardwiring. You dont want to have to replace batteries and turn them on individually. You can hide the wires at the back of the insides of your cabs. Once the food and dishes are in there, you never see them.

  4. you can get moulding for the bottom of your cabinets that would conceal the wires.

i have under cabinet lights, you can see the wires if you bend down, but not from eye level. i don’t have the moulding. i like the lights.

  5. what’s with the obsession and under cab lighting. Is there a reason you’d like to highlight an area that is illuminated anyway
Get an accent desk lamp and place it on your counter top
