fridge removal

My house came with a huge old fridge from the 40s or so with a big round compressor on top. It is too large to get out of the basement now and I want to break it up (its very cool looking, but…) I’m wondering how to deal with the refrigerant in it, whatever it may be from that era, and if it is only in the compressor, or in the body itself.
