In planning to remodel my kitchen, I’ve been told that putting the dishwasher next to the oven is a no-no (something about water, heat, and electric being too close to one another). Can anyone elaborate?

  1. It’s probably because the dishwasher is an appliance that gets a counter top over it. It is best to have cabinets on each side to support the counter. Especially if it is going to be a stone counter top. If the dishwasher must be next to the stove, then put a vertical panel between the two to support the weight of the counter top.

  3. That may be an issue, but almost all residential stoves are zero-clearance to wood products(commercial ones are murder, so if you have a restaraunt range you need help). At most, placing a 3/4″ plywood partition between the stove and d/w is ample.

  4. the dishwasher should be next to the sink, no?
so it’s sink, dishwasher, oven in a row? I guess if the dishwasher is open it would be hard to put something in the oven.
Anyway, I’ve heard it’s ideal to have some sort of triangle of fridge, sink and oven.. you may want to browse some kitchen layout books.

  5. Absolutely no objective reason not to. That stuff about electricity and water being too close doesn’t..uh..hold water. After all, the d/w itself is electic with tons of water splashing around.

The only possbile reason is routing the drain and feed lines. Or, of course, convenience.

  6. My kitchen is a galley set-up with sink next to dishwasher next to oven… I think it’s been that way for at least 20 years and I’ve never had a problem. As I’ve never heard of it being an issue, I’ve also never given it much thought so to me, the warnings you’re getting do sound a bit suspicious.

  7. I don’t see the problem. Who ever told you this has a reason for saying this. You really should have asked why. Since we have no details, it’s hard to know what makes your set up any different than any other set up.

  8. But *why*, OE? Just because it “doesn’t sound like a good idea” to you is not enough of a reason fo me.

I had a range next to a d/w next to a sink, and it was no problem.
