Lighting Sources?
Does anyone have any idea where to get good looking, inexpensive light fixtures? Does anyone have any idea where to get good looking, inexpensive light fixtures? Every other place I’ve beento that has been deemed “inexpensive” is still 5 times more expensive than Ikea and twice as expensive as the big-box stores- e.g. Lamp Warehouse, Lighting By Gregory and other Bowery showrooms, etc. Are there any places that are more reasonable? I just feel a little ridiculous paying $200-$1000 for something that may have cost just $10 to $100 to make.
I also love Rejuvenation for all the reasons posted, but they aen’t cheap. I recently needed some retro-style push-button switches, and they were twice as much as the manufacturer for the same switches (you can tell in their photo who made the switches.)
I saved considerable $$$ – and think it’s an excessive markup.
Someone has to pay for printing those lovely catalogs.
Rejuvenation is the best, bar none. Their customer service is amazing and their fixtures are gorgeous. We did our entire house with Rejuvenation light fixtures 7 years ago and they still look stunning. They also sell top notch door hardware.
We just bought all new lighting for a pre-war apartment and bought from:
Walk-In Stores:
. Gracious Home Lighting
73rd @ Third, Manhattan,
. O’Lampia Stuidio (olampia.com)
On the Bowery (forget the other stores),
E-Stores:
. Brass Light Gallery (brassight.com)
Other interesting sites are:
. Rejuvenation Lighting (rejuvenation.com),
. Box Canyon Purveyors (boxcanyon.com), and
. Lundberg Studios (lundbergstudios.com),
Hope this sheds some light for you.
x Artemide : go to their website artemide.com, hit the usa version, there should be an ad or something
Hmm, my husband has some books specifically about electrical and rewiring, but I have no idea where they are right now. He reads up on these things then shows me what to do. I did find a few diagrams online when I was doing it, but I didn’t bookmark them. Try a google search. I’ll tell you who was very helpful for hard to find parts…paxtonhardware.com. There’s also an antique lighting place on Coney Island Ave ($25 per arm to rewire) and a new lighting store right across the street from them. I found that most places didn’t want to sell me parts, they wanted to do the rewiring for me. The fixtures were easier to find than the parts. There’s a place near Poughkeepsie that sells new and refurbished lighting and that guy is very helpful. In fact, one of his sons lives in Clinton Hill and the other in Park Slope. That’s Lamp and Light on Rt 9. It’s worth a day trip because you can shop for other antiques while up there.
How do I find out about where and when the Artemide sale will be held?
They are expensive, but they are also having a warehouse sale outside manhattan this coming week end, or next…Artemide.com.
lighting is more important of what you may think, it might worth to spend something more on it…
There are quite a few lighting places in Brooklyn’s Chinatown there are some really inexpensive quality pieces.
And are you talking about the Lamp Warehouse on Ft. Hamilton Parkway?
Do you know of a good reference book for DIY re-wiring?
I have a few pieces that I’d like to try.
