Countertop Salvage?
I’m at the end of my renovation and I’m pretty much officially out of money. But I still need countertops. Any ideas about a cheap solution? I was hoping to use marble and maybe someone has an idea about where I can find that cheap. It’s a small kithen so maybe salvage is an option…

I need help and I’m considering the suggestions to use large black marble tile for the kitchen counter top. Did you do you use the same for the back splash?
What is wrong with you people? Don’t you know? NEVER use marble as a kitchen countertop, it absorbs oil and stains easily. Use GRANITE.
I really love the look of old marble. Has anyone had luck using salvage marble for kitchen counter tops. Where do you buy it and who will install it?
Ditto the previous suggestion. I tried it and it works. Use18x18 tiles in black/gray with dark gray grout. The grout is really narrow with this size of tile and except on close inspection it is indistiinguishable from a slab. Also the care and maintenance is the same as a slab. I put a wooden bullnose strip around the edge and it’s gorgeous. A small fraction of the cost of a slab.
Ditto from the previous suggestion. Buy 18×18 marble floor tiles and have them set into the countertop. If you get black and use black or gray grout (which will be a very thin strip with an 18×18 tile) it will appear indistinguishable from a solid marble countertop except on close inspection. Care and maintenance are just the same as for a solid slab. Ditto for granite. This costs only a small fraction of buying a slab, looks just as good, works just as well. Put a bullnose strip around the edge. It’s gorgeous.
a cheaper alternative to spending $3000 for granite is to use granite TILES. if you like the granite look, granite tiles will cost a fraction of the cost of a slab.
Sorry Superstone is on 14th Street – I found my bill from them and their number is 718-832-1808.
Use Ikea’s wood countertops-we renovated a whole house and these countertops were the best value of anything we bought. A year later still looking as new-finish with four coats of pure tung oil and redo once a year-will last for ever
I cannot find a listing for Superstone on 12th or 13th Streets. Could you verify the name and address and a phone number?
