I just had the asbestos insulation removed from the pipes in my basement for my hot water radiators. it’s good that the asbestos is gone, but now i need to insulate the pipes again. any suggestions for the best/most efficient way to do this?

  1. actually, we just had an engineer look at a house and he said that the asbestos removal was “rip and run” – not done by a professional and any engineer could see that – meaning particles could still be floating in the air and there were still remnants on the pipes. he recommended professional removal plus air quality test. sure you could rip it out yourself, but why screw around – we’re talking about lung cancer here.

  2. Honestly, asbestos is easily removed. If you want to fork over 4 grand, go for it. Or as another poster says, thoroughly water down the asbestos insulation, put on a respirator and disposable clothes , and remove the stuff.

  3. Master Plvmber – thx for the info about insulation. Does this also apply to hot water & hot water heating pipes or is foam just as good for these smaller pipes?
