Has anyone installed any of the min-duct a/c systems like spacepak?

Does it work?
Does it look cheesy?
Can I please come and see it??

  1. I did a gutt renovation of a landmark townhouse recently and used spacepak. It worked great. We hid the return behind the closets. It takes up very little space and the air ducts perfectly match the recessed lighting. The blower unit was hidden above one of the top floor bathroom ceilings. It’s awesome not to have any ugly radiators or base board units in the entire house.

Bottom line, the systems works and looks great and supplies both heat and AC. The whole thing including the gas boiler and the AC unit on the roof cost $15000 for the three story, 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom home I renovated.

Unfortunately, I sold the house a few weeks ago, so I can’t show it to you. . . but there really isn’t much to see . . . check out the Spacepak website for photos.

The new owners love it and told me the very quite blowing sound when it’s on is very soothing while sleeping.

  2. The installation was done by an A/C subcontractor for All Renovation (718-351-4099). The total cost was $15K and change. The Spacepak quote was close or 1-2k more but I decided against it since the Sanyo installation didn’t need the build-out of the return into my hallway. I’ve uploaded some pics of the unit before installation and after it was installed. Includes the layout of the unit (in pink on the layout).

  3. I looked into the system and traded emails with Spacepak, they recommeneded 2 local NY companies to price the job. I liked Phil of EB Mechanical (718-416-2235) the best, he was very knowledgable of the product and explained how it was going to be installed etc. Unfortunately I decided against it as I would have had to build a box (sheet rock) around the return which would have extended into my hallway. Instead I decided on a Sanyo CONCEALED DUCT AIR system:

The Sanyo system worked better for my home and I did not need the unsightly return in the hallway. I loved Spacepak and wish it would have worked out but it may in your case depending on your layout. Call EB Mechanical, their input helped with my decision even if it wasn’t to their favor Phil was very nice.

If you like to come see my unit email me at allan@seveneighteen.net

    Good Luck,
