Hi,

Does anyone have a real estate agent that they would recommend working with? My brother and I are looking to purchase a two- or three-family home in the Cobble, Carroll, Boerum or Clinton Hill area.

Thank you.

  1. The earlier posters are correct. You will not see every property for sale in Brooklyn through one broker. You have to find the house you want and whatever broker is selling that house is the one you will deal with. Many of Brooklyn’s biggest Real Estate agencies are listed with links here on this page in the left hand margin. You have to sort through what you want. There is no secret passage to all the houses via one agent. Go through each site and see what you like. It takes people 6 months to 6 years to find a house in Brooklyn.

  2. I used Terry Naini (718) 780-8110 , from Prudential Douglas Elliman. She is located on Montague Street. She helped me and my husband purchase our first brownstone in Cobble Hill on Baltic Street. She is extremely knowledgeable and honest. She doesn’t try to push you into anything and sticks to your parameters. Having been a 1st time buyer and hearing other realtor horror stories I found that quality refreshing. But you should also do additonal research. My husband read a book, the name escapes me, but it is for 1st time home buyers and it lists certain questions you should ask realtors. I found it to be helpful We initally started our search on our own but it was useless. The realtors rely on a central database that lists all open house and available listings. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do your own search in conjuction with theirs. I also found that the real estate usiness by nature is incestous. These realtors have all in some point in their careers worked or come in contact with each other (buyer or seller broker). Which can work in your favor.

    Good Luck!!!!

  3. Mary LaRosa Lederer of brooklyn-real.
She is very honest, sweet, and won’t waste your time with crap if you tell her what you’re looking for. She works out of Windsor Terrace now but worked in Cobble Hill/Carroll Gardens for many years.

  4. My favorite R.E. experience (actually, the first good one, period, and it was a very good one) was Brooklyn Properties, but specifically, Michael McGrath. I’d sell my kids through him. But he’s out of the Fort Greene office. Hope that helps.

  5. You are better off doing all the hunting yourself. If you work with one agent the seller’s agent may have to split his/her commission in half and that will not make you an attractive buyer. Don’t believe any agent that says otherwise.
