replacing boiler
I posted a few days ago about a leaking boiler. It now turns out that I definitely have to replace the boiler. Has anyone ever done this? Can they recommend a company? I am very confused — how does one know what kind of boiler to get, for instance. We have a 96-year-old house, so…
I posted a few days ago about a leaking boiler. It now turns out that I definitely have to replace the boiler. Has anyone ever done this? Can they recommend a company? I am very confused — how does one know what kind of boiler to get, for instance. We have a 96-year-old house, so I am concerned about the new boiler being compatible with my ancient radiators. Help!
I just switched all my buildings to Boro Fuel and they took care of EVERYTHING for me, from annual inspections (which were back dated from the previous owners) to coming out promptly in the middle of the night when the pipes cracked. The guys there are genuinely nice and that’s really hard to find in Brooklyn, trust me! Give them a call, 718-854-7500. The owner, Jeff, will deal with your problems personally. (I sound like an advertisment)
I second Boro Fuel and Oil as a starting point for replacing your boiler. The people, including the owner, Jeff Cohn, are the most friendly and professional people in the business. You can ask whatever questions you have without feeling stupid and the work that these guys perform are very good. I have not gotten my boiler replaced, but did get them to service my boiler, buy and install a 7″ smoke pipe and properly seal the hole around chimney (which was horribly done before). I highly recommend them.
Since it is not heating season yet, you do have some time. Please consider getting an energy efficient system, and if possible a modulating/ condensing boiler. They will save you $ and are great for the environment as well. And you will get rebates. No, I am not a salesman, just a homeowner. Also, please have them do a heat loss calculation. Very important. Most old boilers are horribly oversized for the house and getting a correctly sized boiler alone will save you much $ and fuel.
I replaced my boiler several years ago and used Boro Fuel and Oil Co., they are a family owned business around since the 30’s…speak with the owner, his name is Jeff Cohn, very nice guy. Explain your situation and your needs. You can reach him at 718-854-7500, tell him one of his customers (Suarez from E. 5th St.) recommended them. He’s know my family for years.
Good Luck,
Allan
Call big company whose trucks you see in the neighborhood.
Talk to a professional plumber. They will install the right size boiler rated for the cubic size of your house. Not a big deal. Have no fear. Boilers are hooked into old radiator systems all the time.
