Need Advice: Basement Doors Leaking
We recently moved into a two-family in South Slope and have noticed that after it rains we get a significant amount of water in our basement from the metal hatches. Can anyone suggest a solution other than Bilco doors? Other doors/covers? Specific contractors you’ve used? Rubber mats don’t seem to do the trick… Thanks.

Try sealing the hatch with weatherproof strips. The same one you use to stop drafts around doors.
I don’t really have anyone to reccomend. I built hatch covers myself from plywood and a few 2 X 8’s, then covered the top in roofing material (cut a little long where it meets the back wall of the house). If you’re at all handy and have tools, it’s not a difficult project and ours has held up for 5 years so far. By the way, I’d call myself only marginally handy.
