I’m doing a semi-gut reno on my townhouse and plan to have a “whole house audio system” installed. Can someone recommend a quality home audio design/installation service provider? How much would this cost (nothing too crazy, just a basic system)?

Brownstoner, can you create a “Smart Home” category in the Forum? Someplace where people can go for specific info on Light Control Systems, Integrated Security Systems, PBX Digital Phone Systems, Whole House Audio/Video Systems, Broadband Ethernet Networks, etc.

Thanks!

  1. I strongly recommend you speak with Bruce Deegan at Innovative Audio in mid-town Manhattan. A dedicated audiophile with a very lowkey and informative style, Bruce has presided over some very complicated installations. 212-634-4444.

  2. Contact Lacacy Audio/Video in NJ (legacyaudivideo.com). They did our home system a couple of years ago, and we were very pleased with them. We installed ceiling speakers throughout that run to a single multi-zone receiver that lets you play a CD in one room, the radio in another, etc.

  3. consider the SONOS system… you just need to run ethernet cable, and it can work on your wireless internet connection in places. The music will be stored on your computer and the remote control can be used in any room… it’s a very cool system.
