I’m getting estimates for skim coating in my 650 square foot 1.5 bedroom apartment. The walls are definitely lumpy, with a few major cracks, but no holes or extreme damage. Also need my baseboards removed and new ones reinstalled. So far, one estimate for just the skim coating was 14K. Another, for both the skim coating and the baseboards, was 24K. These both seem extreme to me. Am I just being a cheapskate?

  1. I’d be interested in doing this job for you. I’m a plasterer have my own small business, I do good work and good price. My work is guaranteed, and I have references. I just like to see the job first and then give the price. Well you can e-mail me willianprates68@hotmail.com or call 508-558-5350 to set up an appointment. Thanks

  2. That’s one of the most outrageous quotes I’ve ever heard.

I highly recommend Hamish Kilgour–he skim-coated a large old plaster room for me and it looks great. He’s a nice guy a super-reasonable. All in all, I think I spent around $3,000 to repair, skim coat AND paint a 400 sf room. You can reach Hamish at (646) 812-2510.

  3. I have posted this awile ago, but propably it is difficult to find: my sister’s boyfriend did a very good skimcoatong in one of the worst rooms in one of my rentals. It looks great now.
This appartment is empty (we still renovating) and I am OK to show this room to you in person. It cost me about 600 for 16’X12′ room ( I am paying him by hour) and I do not think he will charge significantly more 🙂 since his joblist is just started to pick up. He will hoopefully finish one big job for me by next Tuesday. Then he has another small project for a couple of days – at least this is what I know about his schedule.

  4. Umm…. Is that K as in 1,000? That’s like a 100 dollar cheeseburger. Hello? If you need a good guy in Brooklyn to do some awesome work for the equivalent of a $4.99 cheeseburger deluxe, let me know. He just has to finish some stuff for me.
