Anyone out there have Marvin Infinity windows? The fiberglass ones? Comments? We’re thinking of replacing 12 windows, so really want to be sure we make a good choice. Thanks very much for comments.

  1. To Scott and all.

Came across this thread on Infinity Windows from Marvin. While it’s a little old, I read it with interest, since I’m the Infinity Product Manager for the NYC area. You’re welcome to send me any comments, good or bad, and I will be glad to help you out any way I can (jmartinez@supermarvin.com). Regarding scratches on the bronze windows: while it’s possible that you may have had scratches from dust (I’ll take your word for it) I can’t possbly believe that Marvin would blow you off like that. In my time here, I’ve found them to be extremely customer service oriented. BTW -If you still have scratches, there is a very easy way to buff them out. Please also know: the Infinity is an amazing window and the line is available in many styles. I generally see nothing but rave reviews from homeownwers.

  2. 12/17/06. Marvin Infinity casement windows with exterior bronze finish. 17windows arrived covered in glass dust and nothing but cardboard to protect finish/ Covered w/ scratches. Sent back. Marvin:” They are acceptable, we will do nothing to correct, take it or leave it. The best we can do.” The windows would be great if they compared to all the marketing materials. Have NO confidence that Marvin will honor their warranty either.

  3. Update: We got our infinity Marvins a week ago and LOVE them. They are lovely, block noise well, tilt in upper and lower sashes, and the fake wood, called ‘everwood” is the most convincing fakery I’ve seen in years.

BTW Bayridge Windows and Doors was a delight to work with, from the sales people through the installation people.

  4. To the Pella rep.

I am a service rep. for Marvin windows. The Integrity line of windows is made up of Ultrex, not fiberglass. It is similar, but stronger.
In regards to the double hung window,Integrity has produced this since around 1999. It is Ultrex material on the exterior, wood on the interior.
Now if you are talking about the Infinity line, the double hung has been around for about 3 years now (all Ultrex window). The advantage to the Ultrex is that is doesn’t expand and contract like vinyl (just like your Impervia).

  5. Hi,

I am the Pella Windows and Doors replacement specialist for Brooklyn/Queens. I think I can shed some light on the fiberglass window question. Fiberglass windows are what national window manufacturers produce as an alternative to vynil replacement. The catch with them is that most manufacturers only produce fiberglass in single hung windows. Single hungs are sash windows with the top sash fixed. This means no easy clean. Pella Impervia was the first to offer a double hung fiberglass window and we have been selling it for the last 6 months. To be brutally honest, I don’t know if Marvin is doing the DH yet but would assume if they aren’t the will be soon. My advice is to make sure you know what your getting. Fiberglass windows are fairly new and even most window people still very little knowledge of them.

  6. When I was researching window replacements last year, I got very interested in fiberglass windows (including Marvin’s Infinity line). Eventually, I learned from several manufacturers/distributors that, even though fiberglass is a great product it has not yet been suitably developed for application in NYC brownstone type windows (don’t ask me why!). I finally came to realize that no reputable window dealer would entertain the thought of ordering such windows for my turn of the century townhouse. In the end, I went with Marvin wood windows . . . with no regrets.

  7. Marvin are good windows, but you are paying for the name, try Jeld-wen, they are considered just as good if not better, and much less expensive
