I recently started a garden in the backyard of my property. I’ve worked countless hours cleaning out buried trash and all sorts of unmentionables hidden by the previous owner. Today, I noticed a group of busy flies. The cats are going to the bathroom in my yard and then they use the mulch to cover it. What can I use to keep the cats from doing this, and where can I buy it.

  1. We use a product called Repel II dog & Cat Repellent. You sprinkle the granules on their favorite spots, and it keeps them away. Smells sort of citrus-y. It’s not safe to ingest, so if little kids play in your yard, it’s not a good idea. But our cat has showed no interest in eating it. She just stays away from it. You put it out after every rain for a few weeks, and then after that the cats are supposedly trained to go elsewhere. It’s worked for us, with our own cat and the random visitors we get. I ordered it from Petco.com.

  2. USE YOUR OLD ROSE BUSH CUTTINGS, THE MORE THORNS THE BETTER, AS A MULCH. LEAVE THEM ON THE GROUND AS THE PLANTS GROW OVER THEM. THE CAT GET THE IDEA FAST AND NO HARMFUL POISONS, ECT.

  3. The water scarecrow has kept the cats and squirrels out of the areas of my yard that it faces. Used to have a family of strays next door but they have moved on, not willing to dodge water to dig in my garden.

I have the scarecrow in a pot and move it to around to keep the squirrels guessing.

  4. a friend of mine sprinkles cayenne pepper to deter cats in her garden. There is also supposedly a plant which deters cats – maybe an internet search would turn it up

  5. I had the same problem and I posted a similar query last year and someone mentioned a Waterscarecrow….its basically a motion detecting device that lets out a stream of water when any animal comes within its parameters. It has worked great and has kept all the stray cats from out of the garden. I ordered from here but I think Amazon carries it:

  6. I need help people, not jokes. This is serious. I haven’t made a slingshot since I was twelve years old, hell, I wouldn’t even know where to find the perfect three prong twig. Last night, I went out side to find another pile, this time it was a pile of maggots, or worms. They had also been buried under the mulch. I think it came from the cat. My husband disagrees. Oh, and I’m highly allergic to dogs, so, that won’t work.
