California Closet
We are considering making the 1/2 room on our topfloor a small walk-in closet. Any experience or recommendations on a reasonably priced agent/store to make it a California Closet? Thanks in advance for any help!

Here is the sum up from previous thread on this subject:

Mid priced:
http://www.easyclosets.com/ Easy Closets uses a track and panel systems and a hacksaw is listed as needed for install as well as drill, so not as easy an install as Elfa style. But they are much less expensive and don’t have exposed metal hanging system.
http://www.castlecloset.com/home.html Castle Closets style is similar to California Closet (but cost almost 1/2 the price)
Mid to Higher priced:
http://www.containerstore.com/browse/index.jhtml?CATID=3 elfa® Easy Hang Top Tracks for easy install and easy reconfigure. Uses wire baskets. (some people don’t like look or function of the wire baskets)
http://www.schultestorage.com/ Schulte uses “Freedom Rail” hanging system similar to Elfa, but features laminate drawers instead of wire baskets.
Higher priced:
http://www.californiaclosets.com/ Fully installed and look sturdier/longer lasting then some of the other systems, but on the high end for price. They have Melamine Line and Wood Veneer Line.
Consumer reports recommends the container store, which I used and would also recommend.
Very resonable, and the result looks good.
probably not as upscale as cali closets.

I used closets by design, really liked the designer, he was much more responsive than calif. closets and actually talked me out of more expensive options. Installers were prompt, cleaned up after themselves, and when I asked for one more shelf later dropped it off at no charge.
I was very disappointed with California Closets. They were very inflexible, wanted me to hire additional contractors to “prep” the closets (i.e. rip out the old stuff, spackle and paint), and order and hang the doors myself! I kept thinking – what am i paying you so much money for? I wound up firing them before they started, buying the closet components at Home Depot and having my handyman install them for about 1/4 the price. I got exactly what I wanted and i’m very happy with my closet.
I used Castle Closet and so did my sister and I’ve only got amazing things to say about Jim and their crew. Apparently they cut most of the closets for their competitors which is why their prices are lower.
I’ve also used ezclosets for simple closets in our tenants apartments. they’re great too but it was too much for me to deal with a whole room installation myself.
Both companies get a thumbs up, just depends on whether you want to do the design and install yourself.

I’m planning to use Castle Closets http://www.castlecloset.com/home.html Their website is lame, but they are almost 1/2 price of CA Closets.
I am just about to order 3 closets from easycloset.com I can’t say enough good things about the design process- I have odd shaped closets so I by passed the do it yourself section and called them. This was after having both CA Closets and Closet Factory in for an estimate. The easycloset design was WAY better and about a 1/3 of the price. We will have to install ourselves- but from what I have read on this board is very easy to do…
Great thanks a lot for the recommendations. V. helpful!
