Does anyone know the process for creating a parking space in the front of a brownstone…Some of our neighbors have them, and we have enough space. Thanks!

  1. while I really don’t want to mess up my brownstone either, reading the nudnick responses on this thread makes me want to put in a car port just annoy to you all

  2. 18 feet is correct. I believe if you have a two family house you must have room to park three cars…the city won’t let you take a parking spot away from the block unless you give one back. Besides that parking a car in your front yard is just plain ugly. I rather look greenery then my car when is sit on my stoop.

  3. Move further out in Brooklyn if you want a parking space.

Lots of houses in the Victorian Flatbush section not only have driveway, but one to two car garages.

Or ditch the car, ride a bike/use public transit and when your REALLY need a car rent one by hour or day from Zip Car.

  4. I think this is the same guy who wants to know about killing a tree. By putting in a driveway you take out a street parking space. This is not a net social gain. Nor is it appropriate to brownstone brooklyn. Did you really expect another answer on this site?

  5. If you want a driveway in front of your house, please move to Queens or the North Bronx, or anywhere else but brownstone Brooklyn. Lots of people around here cut driveways for themselves, both legally and (mostly) illegally. To quote my aunt, it makes your house look like Cannery Row. I cannot for the life of me see how that could possible increase your property value.

Worst case are those individuals who turn the ground floor of their brownstones into garages. If you want the “conveniences” of a new modern townhouse, go buy one, don’t screw up a perfectly decent brownstone, or front yard.

  6. I think parking is horrendous especially with alternate side parking regs. Although I would think that a driveway would increase the overall property value, can anyone confirm this?
