  3. i’ve had bad experiences with slomins.
if you don’t get burglarized, then you don’t
have a problem with them. but we had a burglar
cut our phone line from outside the house,
then deactivated our security keypads inside
the house by ripping them off the wall. and
yet slomins had no idea anything happened!
needless to say we were not pleased.

we felt we were misled; they said that if a
phone line was cut they’d know about it.
i don’t have anything good to say about the
    salespeople, either. they’ll basically tell
you what you want to hear, but until something
bad happens you’ll never know if your system
    performs the way you’d expect.

the 5 year contract is not favorable, either.
if you sell your house within 5 years, you’re
still under obligation to pay. same thing
if you are not pleased with their service
    and want to cancel.

  4. Slomins is definitely bottom of the heap among the alarm co’s such as ADT, Protection One and Brinks. there are old posts on this. check the archives.

  5. we installed slomin’s after a minor break in last year and haven’t had any problems with the service. installation took about 5 hours and was very professional. i recommend them. if you decide on slomin’s, give them the name of another slomin’s customer and tell them they referred you. they’ll save a month’s worth of fees!

  6. I went with ADT. You can pre-buy the equipment and not be locked into a 5-year “renting” contract. I’ve been very happy with them.

At the time, I had to stick with Verizon / MCI for the back-up phone line, as Vonage was not a “hard” phone line for back-up, but that may have changed since my installation.

Generally I’ve been happy with ADT.

  7. We researched Solommins and ADT and went with Slommins. ADT offered a shorter contract but charged upfront for the installation over which they retained ownvership. Slommins required a 5 year contract and had no upfront installation charge. With Slomminsm you own the equipment when the conract expires. We’re two years into the contract and service has been fine. We did have pto resolve problems a couple of times when the phone lines went dead. The alarm system assumes that a burglar has cut the lines.

  8. we have slomins. the service seems okay. we really don’t know if it’s great or not… thank goodness. in the very beginning, we had several false alarms… entering the wrong code, dog jumping setting off alarms, etc. Every time they contacted me on my cell phone within 5 minutes and also contact the local precinth if i don’t answer right away. the dog setting off alarm was resolved by installing a new sensor… at no charge to us. we signed a 5 year contract… i think they require a long contract.
