Getting Rid of Appliances
I am renovating a 2 family house and have to get rid of 2 refridgerators and 2 gas stoves. If I purchase a new stove or fridge (like from PC Richard’s), does anyone know if they’ll remove the old ones? Does anyone know of any charities that will come and remove these items? Thx.

i used pc richards 4 years ago for new appliances and they took the old ones out for free and installed the new for free.
OK I realize typing this comment will take longer than reading this entry, but come on people. If you want to know if PC Richard will pick up your old applicance, why don’t you just call and ask? Isn’t that faster and more reliable than posting here? Sorry, sometimes I just don’t get it.
if they are usable, put them on craigslist. This way they will be reused rather than recycled.
Thanks everybody. I did speak to PC Richards today and they said that the removal is included in their delivery charge – just tell them before hand…Lots of options.
it’s not that big of a deal to recycle your appliances. We have done 3 fridges that way. The stoves get crunched in the sanitation recycling. RECYCLE!
Funny, when I got new appliances from PC Richards they removed the old ones for free.
I think that’s the best alternative. Same crew brings in the new, takes out the old.
No dealing with the city, taking off refrigerator doors, waiting for the city to de-freon-ize appliances before sanitation pickup.
PC Richards, etc, will charge a fee ($10-20 per piece) to remove the appliances, but they do take them. You can put stoves out with the recyclables. For the fridges, call 311 to set up an appointment. You have to take the doors off, put it out, they’ll remove the freon, then it goes on the curb on recycling day. I don’t know if charities pick up, but I’d try Habitat for Humanities first. OR…post them on craigslist for free and you’ll have a ton of calls. Unfortunately, some craigs people will waste your time though.
